Introducing The Shed!
A New Logo & New Direction for this Publication
Hey everyone!
Short post for you today. I’ve been working on a new logo for the Substack—and I’m glad to say it’s done. Or like 95% done. Nothing creative is ever done. The common saying goes that art is never finished but must be wrenched from the hands of the artist. No one literally took this logo out of my hands, but I’d drive myself nuts if I kept working on it. Plus, I’d be avoiding the real work. Which is creating new content and creative direction for this Substack.
So! Here’s the logo and I’ll talk a bit about it in a sec:

The rebrand will be called “The Shed” and here’s some of my reasoning:
What is the Shed: IF everyone needs a room of their own to write in--then all creative people need a shed. Whether it’s a literal shed or a metaphorical shed, it’s a low-effort, highly effective space where we tune into in order to connect with our most alive self. After all, that’s what creativity is. The practice of coming alive.
I’ll post guides, philosophy, how-to instructions, interviews/conversations, research, photography, and other stories. This newsletter brings you all sorts of content with one goal: to help you be your most alive and most creative self.
With tech replacing a great deal of labor when it comes to anything logistical, I think the thing we all need to consider is how we will use extra time or extra mind space in order to creatively enrich our own lives.
Doesn’t sound too different from my old stuff, right?
Here’s the major changes you need to know about:
I’m reworking the cadence of how often I post. I’ll aim to post between once and twice a week, but with different focuses…
The content of the pieces will be aimed more directly at creativity. For the most part, I’ve posted a lot about myself and my life in the past year or two on this Substack—and I’d like to turn that lens outwards more frequently. That won’t mean I’ll stop posting about myself, I’ll just do it less in favor of more exciting content.
Interviews/Conversations/Podcasts: The one time I did them, the interview was wildly popular with everyone I’ve shared it with. People love connection, and we all love a good podcast. While I’m not the best host per se — I make comments and noises literally constantly — I do ask good questions and know how to make people feel comfortable to share their story and their soul. So, I will be seeking to figure out a way to do that more sustainably and to bring some really interesting guests your way.
All of these changes are intended to realign with what kinds of things I can write about for a long period of time without boring myself and without boring readers. By giving myself the lens of creativity and living a creative life—I narrow my focus and unironically expand my options for when it comes to creating a new story to share. If it seems like it could be related to improving my life creatively or someone else’s—I’ll write about it.
Here’s a sneak peak at one of the early drawings for the new logo, you can tell I changed direction A LOT from these early sketches.
I’m going to do a whole post on the process and importance of iteration. But for now, all I’ll say is that I iterated constantly throughout the 30 - 40 hour design process for this logo. The constant iteration is what brought me to the design I’m (95%) happy with. ;)
That’s all for now. You’ll hear more from me soon. The goal is to have the new cadence and content structure up and running in the next month. Right in time for Summer.
Because we all need a little more creativity in our life—and what better place to do it than The Shed?
